Each year, students in grades three through eight and high school participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System. Our school will be administering CAASPP tests from Friday, April 26 through Thursday, May 9. Please visit our website to find more information about CAASPP testing at our school: www.ecalattc.org.
CAASPP is an annual academic testing system that provides information on student progress to ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and/or career. Starting in spring 2019, all CAASPP assessments will be online. CAASPP assessments include English–language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics for students in grade 11, the California Science Test (CAST) for students in grades 11, and 12. Students with significant cognitive disabilities take the California Alternate Assessment for ELA, math, and science.
All CAASPP tests measure what your student knows and is able to do. The tests include many different types of questions that allow students to interact with the test questions. Results help identify gaps in knowledge or skills early on so your child can get the support needed to be successful in school. To learn more, you and your child can visit the California Department of Education (CDE) Website at this web address http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/.
Starting with spring 2019 CAASPP results, the CDE will no longer print paper reports for parents. Hence, parents will no longer receive their child’s paper report by mail. In Los Angeles Unified, parents will be able to access their student’s electronic CAASPP Student Score Report in the Parent Portal or PASSport. The Parent Portal is a one-stop online system that connects parents and guardians to their student’s testing and other essential data. Parents can monitor student’s attendance, grades, assignments, update emergency telephone numbers, track student progress toward graduation, and much more. If you do not have a Parent Portal account, we encourage you to create one soon. If you need assistance creating an account, please come into our office to help you set it up.
The electronic CAASPP Student Score Report will offer a more dynamic way of providing information about students. Parents will be able to securely access their child’s current and previous test reports using a mobile device or a computer. The report will contain crucial information about the test and it will include links and resources to help parents better understand the report and help their students.
As the parent or guardian, you have the option of excusing your child(ren) from any part of the CAASPP. If you would like to excuse your child from any of the tests, you must submit your request in writing to the school [Education Code 60615.] Please let the school know as soon as possible so we can make alternative arrangements for your child(ren).
At Early College Academy, our goal is for all students to achieve their full potential. The CAASPP test results are one way we can better understand if we are meeting that goal. Thank you for all you do to partner with us in your child’s education. If you have any questions regarding CAASPP, please contact Mr. Mota at (213) 763-3685 and/or vie e-mail at email@example.com.
